"The Spanish text follows the French as the second such adaptation to be completed. It has been prepared through the collaboration of Miss Ruth C. Metcalf, Research Assistant in elementary language instruction and doctoral candidate in the Romance Language Department of Harvard University. By no means a mere translation of the English or of the French Pocket Book, the Spanish primer starts from the pictures themselves, sometimes changing and sometimes rearranging them to meet the needs of the new language. These simple explanations of an organic sequence of related items of experiences it uses as a scaffold for building Spanish structure and essential vocabulary.

Like its English model, the text is graded. Its design, word by word, sentence by sentence, is planned and controlled to smooth and support first steps in the language. The continuous pictorial commentary in stick-figure drawings supplies an adequate running explanation for the meanings of the earlier sentences. As ideas as well as objects are discussed in the later pages, words already made clear are brought back to help explain the new. The sequence is self-reviewing."
